For the Inauguration of President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris, the Presidential Inauguration Committee (PIC) will host a National Day of Service in honor of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. PIC is partnering with FDP and organizations across the country to host service events that focus on COVID-19 relief and address challenges that have been exacerbated by the pandemic, such as poverty, hunger, racial injustice, homelessness, mental health, and educational disparities.
Here in Florida, Feeding America reports that one in eight people, an estimated 2,768,480 Floridians, are struggling with hunger and one in five children is hungry. This is unacceptable, and while Ron DeSantis and the GOP-led legislature continue to fail us, we are asking you to join us to help people in need.
In support of PIC’s National Day of Service, on Monday, January 18, 2021, the Florida Democratic Party is collaborating with organizations throughout the state to support local food banks. We are asking County Parties, Caucuses and Clubs to organize their members, friends, and family to collect nonperishable food and deliver food collected to a local food bank.
FDP will provide everyone with a list of food banks in each county where the donation can be received. Individuals who agree to collect food and donate it to a food bank on January 18, 2021, please sign up here.
A financial gift of any size may be made to Feeding Florida, the State’s network of food banks working to solve hunger. To donate to Feeding Florida, click here.
