While most mental health clinicians and organizations focus on the mother-child dyad, a wealth of research now shows that fathers can strongly impact – and be impacted by – their partners’ and babies’ well-being throughout the perinatal period. In order to take a comprehensive, whole-family approach, it is essential to be familiar with the research, theory, and best clinical practices regarding how men make the transition to fatherhood. Dr. Singley will provide an overview of how men’s socialization relates to common perinatal mental health issues with an emphasis on how clinicians can be more father-inclusive and sensitive to common men’s issues as they navigate the transition to fatherhood.
