SUMMARY:An Earthly A-Fair 2021 South Florida Fair
DESCRIPTION:South Florida Fair to present two fairs in 2021\nWEST PALM BEACH\, Fla. — Organizers of the South Florida Fair are taking the unprecedented step of presenting two fairs in one year with the announcement of a full-fledged\, traditional fair now scheduled for May 7-23. This is in addition to the South Florida Mini Fair\, which took place January 15-31.\nTo top it off\, everyone who bought a ticket online from the South Florida Fair’s website for the mini fair will be granted one free Tuesday\, Wednesday or Thursday admission to the fair in May.\n“We have proven the ability to make adjustments as needed\,” said Vicki Chouris\, the fair’s president & CEO. “In the name of safety\, most people realize why we decided to scale back our traditional fair but we also know they were disappointed. Now they can get two different types of fairs for the price of one\, all in the same year.”\nThe South Florida Fair in May will feature its original theme of “An Earthly A-Fair\,” both indoor and outdoor attractions\, some 200 rides and games\, and all of the other fair favorites. The South Florida Mini Fair was held outdoors and included the typical fair foods and beverages\, a variety of local and tribute bands performing daily\, shopping opportunities with vendors under a large tent\, racing pigs\, a giant sand sculpture\, strolling entertainers\, farm animals\, kiddie rides and visiting the historic buildings of Yesteryear Village.\nFor the January fair\, safety measures were enforced and included mandatory mask wearing by everyone\, safety protocols for all vendors\, and a revamped site layout to accommodate more distancing. In May\, fair officials will follow the CDC guidelines that are being recommended at that time.\nFor more information\, visit southfloridafair.com See Less

SUMMARY:People's Progressive Caucus of Miami-Dade - General Body Meeting!
DESCRIPTION:Join us at 6:30pm\nWednesday April 28th\, 2021\nGeneral Body Meeting!\nSpeaker:\nLuisa Santos\, Miami-Dade School Board Member\, District 9\n“Proud product of Miami-Dade Public Schools\, Education Advocate\, and Successful Entrepreneur.\nEvery once in a while\, an individual comes home\, brings with them their life and education experience and pays it forward in a way that truly inspires and affects the next generation of students.\nIn a South Florida community that is so rapidly changing\, we need to ensure our students are prepared to take on the challenges of an ever-changing world\, a job market that has yet to be created\, and a democracy that is being tested. Their future is now and because of that comes the next generation of School Board Member – Luisa Santos.\nLuisa represents everything great about Miami Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) and is working to write the next chapter of student success in District 9.\nShe moved to Miami from Bogota\, Colombia when she was eight and thanks to MDCPS\, was speaking fluent English by nine. During her junior year at Coral Reef Sr. High\, Luisa discovered she was undocumented. She persisted — starting her higher education at Miami Dade College and eventually becoming a proud U.S. citizen.\nLuisa worked in President Obama’s U.S. Department of Education in Washington\, DC while completing her studies in Political Economy and Education at Georgetown University. She knows teachers and school staff can change lives — she saw it first hand teaching 4th graders and leading a mentoring and advocacy literacy program for historically underserved 3rd graders. Luisa eventually came home to Miami to launch her own business\, Lulu’s Ice Cream\, through which she has reimagined what students can learn in the workplace.\nLuisa’s career narrative as a change-agent\, thought-leader\, mentor\, and education advocate was built on what MDCPS taught her. As our school board member\, Luisa fights to empower the next generation.” \n\nHome \n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/LuisaSantos2020\n****************\nYou are invited to a Zoom meeting.\nWhen: Apr 28\, 2021 06:30 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)\nRegister in advance for this meeting:\nhttps://zoom.us/…/tJ0of–przkiGd0_bfrjayTxbNQZXWKc2apd\nAfter registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

SUMMARY:Inaugural National Poetry Month Festival
DESCRIPTION:April is National Poetry Month and event organizers throughout South Florida are showcasing how the written and spoken word can help people alleviate feelings of fear\, uncertainty\, and loss during the COVID-19 pandemic. \nThe first-ever National Poetry Month Festival at Riviera Beach City Marina is coming soon to add to those showcases. \nIn these uncertain times\, you can rely on WLRN to keep you current on local news and information. Your support is what keeps WLRN strong. Please become a member today. Donate now. Thank you. \nDesiree Karnis Reavis is the event organizer and COO of the The Desired Group. She says headliners include musicians and local and national spoken-word artists. One of the featured artists is Tony\, Peabody and Emmy-award winning poet Black Ice. \n“Because of what we’re dealing with [with] COVID\, it’s perfect for the social distancing so everybody’s safe\,” Karnis Reavis said. “We even brought in a COVID-compliant company to make sure that we’re going to produce an amazing event but also to keep everyone there safe as well.” \nThe Riviera Beach CRA and Parks and Recreation Department are supporting the inaugural outdoor festival. The event will feature food trucks\, vendors\, a dance team\, and a live band. \nKarnis Reevis\, who is also the co-founder of THE STAGE — a spoken-word poetry and music event series in West Palm Beach — says the festival at Riviera Beach’s popular waterfront is aimed at helping people find solace through introspective art. \n“And see\, that’s the beautiful thing about poetry and spoken word. It doesn’t matter your age\, your race\, socio-economic … your political views — poetry brings us all together\,” she said. “It’s therapeutic. So this event is for everybody.” \nKarnis Reavis is also working with elected officials in Riviera Beach to help find funding for more activities at the festival\, which could include creative workshops in the future. \nOther headliners include local artists and trailblazers in the local poetry scene: Ingrid B\, an event host and owner of On The B Side\, is the Will “Da Real One” Bell Trailblazer Award Honoree. The award is named in honor of Will “Da Real One” a legendary figure in South Florida’s poetry\, spoken word and arts community who was shot and killed in 2011. \nThe festival includes performances from Terese “Chunky” Hill\, Anomaly from the legendary Literary Cafe\, Consider This (co-founder of THE STAGE)\, Jeanette and her Stages\, Calvin “Made-Son” Early\, Casandra Tanenbaum\, QUICKThePoet\, and a music performance by E1EVEN. \nThe National Poetry Month Festival is set for April 24 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Riviera Beach Marina Village Event Center\, 190 E 13th St.
