SUMMARY:West Palm Beach Information and Events Happenings
DESCRIPTION:National Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation\n“During this week’s City Commission Meeting\, the City Commissioners and I were honored to recognize outstanding community leaders with Hispanic Heritage Honoree proclamations in honor of their leadership\, service\, and impact on our community. \nThese honorees represent the strength\, resilience\, and excellence of Hispanic heritage here in West Palm Beach. \nNational Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the rich history\, diverse cultures\, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans — with roots in Central and South America\, the Caribbean\, Spain\, and beyond — whose perseverance\, achievements\, and leadership have helped shape every sector of our society. \nHere in West Palm Beach\, my administration and I remain committed to building a Community of Opportunity for All\, where every resident — including our Hispanic and Latino neighbors — has the opportunity to pursue and achieve their dreams. \nHispanic heritage is not only part of our history; it is a living and evolving legacy that connects generations\, strengthens our community\, and inspires continued progress. \nThe contributions of this year’s honorees help make our City a more inclusive\, diverse\, and dynamic community — and a stronger West Palm Beach for all of us.” \n— Mayor Keith A. James  \n \nHispanic Heritage Honoree Camila Salazar\n“I had the privilege of honoring Camila Salazar as a 2026 Hispanic Heritage Honoree. \nChef-Owner Camila Salazar and her husband\, Osmel González\, are the culinary team behind Emelina\, an intimate 16-seat restaurant in West Palm Beach that is reimagining Cuban cuisine through the lens of Florida’s seasons\, local ingredients and sustainable practices. \nChef Salazar\, a native of Medellín\, Colombia\, brings culinary and hospitality experience from across the United States\, Spain\, and South America\, including work in some of the country’s most acclaimed kitchens. Most recently\, she served as Chief Operating Officer of Michelin-starred EntreNos. \nTogether\, Salazar and González opened Emelina in West Palm Beach in February 2026 with a vision of honoring the memories and traditions of Cuban cuisine while exploring how those traditions can evolve through creativity\, seasonality\, and a strong connection to Florida. \nWithin months of opening\, Emelina earned a Michelin Star — making it the only Michelin-starred restaurant in West Palm Beach and\, notably\, the first Cuban restaurant in the world to receive the prestigious distinction. \nThrough Emelina\, Chef Salazar and her husband are bringing international culinary experience to West Palm Beach while celebrating Hispanic heritage\, elevating Cuban cuisine\, and contributing to the City’s growing reputation as a destination for exceptional dining.” — Mayor Keith A. DESCRIPTION:Healthy Mothers\, Healthy Babies is partially funded by property tax through Children’s Services Council. Thank you\, residents! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Note from the CEO \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOctober marks the beginning of a new fiscal year for HMHB\, one of my favorite annual milestones for our agency. It’s a time for reflection on the past year\, a renewed commitment to our mission\, and an opportunity to set new goals for the future. \n  \nAs we enter the final months of our 40th anniversary year\, we have much to celebrate. This past year brought a record breaking Moments luncheon\, the launch of our first endowment\, community awards recognizing staff achievements\, new volunteers and funders\, enhancements across programs and operations\, and clean audits and accreditation renewals at the highest level. We embrace all the wins\, both large and small.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAs one year closes and another begins\, this moment feels especially important. Across our community\, significant challenges demand our attention. We continue to navigate an ever-evolving maternal health landscape while also addressing a proposed property tax amendment that could drastically reduce funding for some of our community’s most effective and impactful programs. \nAt HMHB\, we believe every family deserves access to the support\, education\, and resources needed for a healthy perinatal period and birth. Fulfilling that mission requires more than direct service. It requires advocacy\, partnership and a strong voice in support of the programs and funding that make this work possible. \n  \nA reduction in property tax funding would have far-reaching consequences for our nonprofit community. Click here to learn more. \nOrganizations like HMHB rely on and partner with special taxing districts including Children’s Services Council to serve local families. CSC is a voter approved entity established in 1986 and was reaffirmed by voters in 2014\, demonstrating our community’s longstanding commitment to investing in children and families with a coordinated system of care. \n  \nHMHB is proud to be an entry point into that system\, connecting women and families to early and consistent perinatal care\, education and social support services. We are just one of hundreds of organizations working together to strengthen lives and improve outcomes across Palm Beach County. \n  \nWe encourage you to learn more about how HMHB is funded in part through your property taxes and to better understand the potential impact these proposed changes could have on services that thousands of families depend on every day. \n  \nA new fiscal year does not mean we slow down. It means we begin again with renewed purpose and determination. It is an opportunity to embrace new possibilities\, achieve meaningful outcomes and celebrate every success along the way. \n  \nOn behalf of our entire team\, thank you for being part of this journey. We are grateful for your support and look forward to continuing this important work together in the year ahead.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Gonzalez\, Chief Executive Officer\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFiscal Year 2026-27 Executive Committee (left to right): \nAmber Bautz\, Secretary; Daniel Lehrhoff\, Vice Chair; Jeffrey Fine\, Chair; Allison Taylor\, Treasurer; Katrina Long-Robinson\, Immediate Past Chair \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPassing the Gavel \nWith deepest gratitude\, we thank Katrina Long-Robinson of Cornerstone Solutions who has served as Board Chair for the last two years. Katrina has led us as we created a new office space\, imagined new strategic goals\, grew our team\, and celebrated 40 years of service. Katrina is rolling into the Immediate Past Chair role\, and we are so grateful to her for sharing her time\, expertise\, and guidance with our community. \nAs of October 1\, Jeffrey Fine of iTHINK Financial has entered the position of Board Chair\, while Community Advocate\, Daniel Lehrhoff will serve as Vice Chair. Allison Taylor of Deloitte is stepping into the role of Treasurer\, while Amber Bautz is continuing her long-standing position as Secretary. Rolling Stone ranks him #23 on its list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time\,” underscoring his unmatched impact on modern music. \nBorn in 1936 to a sharecropper’s family in rural Louisiana\, Guy arrived in Chicago in 1957 and went on to reshape the sound of the electric guitar through groundbreaking work with Chess Records and influential recordings of his own. His recent achievements include a 2019 GRAMMY® win for The Blues Is Alive and Well and the acclaimed PBS American Masters documentary Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase the Blues Away. Today\, as he celebrates 90 years\, BUDDY GUY remains an American music icon—one of the last living architects of the electric blues tradition.
