National Hispanic Heritage Month Proclamation

“During this week’s City Commission Meeting, the City Commissioners and I were honored to recognize outstanding community leaders with Hispanic Heritage Honoree proclamations in honor of their leadership, service, and impact on our community.

These honorees represent the strength, resilience, and excellence of Hispanic heritage here in West Palm Beach.

National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the rich history, diverse cultures, and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans — with roots in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Spain, and beyond — whose perseverance, achievements, and leadership have helped shape every sector of our society.

Here in West Palm Beach, my administration and I remain committed to building a Community of Opportunity for All, where every resident — including our Hispanic and Latino neighbors — has the opportunity to pursue and achieve their dreams.

Hispanic heritage is not only part of our history; it is a living and evolving legacy that connects generations, strengthens our community, and inspires continued progress.

The contributions of this year’s honorees help make our City a more inclusive, diverse, and dynamic community — and a stronger West Palm Beach for all of us.”

— Mayor Keith A. James

Hispanic Heritage Honoree Camila Salazar

“I had the privilege of honoring Camila Salazar as a 2026 Hispanic Heritage Honoree.

Chef-Owner Camila Salazar and her husband, Osmel González, are the culinary team behind Emelina, an intimate 16-seat restaurant in West Palm Beach that is reimagining Cuban cuisine through the lens of Florida’s seasons, local ingredients and sustainable practices.

Chef Salazar, a native of Medellín, Colombia, brings culinary and hospitality experience from across the United States, Spain, and South America, including work in some of the country’s most acclaimed kitchens. Most recently, she served as Chief Operating Officer of Michelin-starred EntreNos.

Together, Salazar and González opened Emelina in West Palm Beach in February 2026 with a vision of honoring the memories and traditions of Cuban cuisine while exploring how those traditions can evolve through creativity, seasonality, and a strong connection to Florida.

Within months of opening, Emelina earned a Michelin Star — making it the only Michelin-starred restaurant in West Palm Beach and, notably, the first Cuban restaurant in the world to receive the prestigious distinction.

Through Emelina, Chef Salazar and her husband are bringing international culinary experience to West Palm Beach while celebrating Hispanic heritage, elevating Cuban cuisine, and contributing to the City’s growing reputation as a destination for exceptional dining.” — Mayor Keith A. James
