Parkland Hearts: Help Build a Literacy Garden ! 🌱📚

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to help bring our Literacy Garden to life at the Fruitful Field in Pompano Beach in support of Broward Reads for the Record. As part of our Parkland Hearts initiative, honoring the legacy of those we lost at MSD, this project brings our community together through service and compassion.

Volunteers will play a hands-on role in building and enhancing this special learning space by assisting with tasks such as using basic tools, sanding and preparing wood, painting fences and structures, assembling garden features, and helping create welcoming reading and activity areas for children and families.

This project connects directly to this year’s featured book, See Marcus Grow by Marcus Bridgewater, celebrating the powerful connection between gardening, learning, and personal growth. By helping construct this Literacy Garden, volunteers will be supporting early literacy while creating a lasting space where children can explore, read, and thrive.

No advanced construction experience is required—just a willingness to learn, work as a team, and make a meaningful impact in the community. All tools, materials, and guidance will be provided.

Join us as we build more than a garden—we’re building opportunities for young readers to grow.
