Official Grand Opening: The Styx Promenade!

Led by the CRA, the $2.6 million Styx Promenade project introduces nine newly built Shotgun-style homes—including a restored original residence—to commemorate the historic Styx community. Designed by Alfonso Hernandez Architect and constructed by Hartnett Building Group, with Burkhardt Construction handling the 7th Street Streetscape, the project was shaped by significant community input. It pays tribute to the early African American settlement originally located on Palm Beach Island, which was later displaced and relocated to Pleasant City.

This development marks the revival of a once-bustling corridor, fostering economic growth and cultural pride. Today, all businesses at the Styx are minority-owned and operated, including:

Camile’s Flowers & Gifts – offering floral arrangements & gifts

Wild Rose Wine & Daiquiri Bar – a vibrant local wine bar

Eat’n Cake – a cozy spot for fresh, flavorful cuisine

A Better Way Home Care – meeting essential healthcare needs in the community

Rohi’s Readery – a social justice-driven children’s bookstore and learning center

Serene Beauty Suite – a salon space for wellness and self-care
