“Appreciating the Dream” In Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The City of Riviera Beach, Riviera Beach Parks & Recreation, Youth Empowerment, and Riviera Beach CRA are uniting in planning activities to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The year 2020 can be best summarized by one of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes, “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” The past year has certainly been a challenge with the uncertainty of COVID, many businesses struggling or closing, and families managing remote learning.

This is the perfect time to appreciate each other and reflect on all that Martin Luther King, Jr. did through his lifetime. One of the things we have witnessed in our city is the desire to answer this question posed by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?” So with that in mind, we want to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with the following activities around the City of Riviera Beach:

Thursday, January 14, 2021 @ 11:30am-1pm – Senior Drive Thru Luncheon @ Lindsey Davis Senior Community Center

Saturday, January 16, 2021 @ 10am – City Front Porch Gala Parade – A front porch style parade highlighting the City and the CRA Departments. Presented by the City of Riviera Beach.

Monday, January 18, 2021 @ 8am-3pm – MLK, Jr. Day of Community Service – Neighborhood Clean-up in Federal Gardens.

Monday, January 18, 2021 @ 6pm Zoom Class – Appreciate the Dream through Health – Have you ever wondered how to use local produce and herbs in your meals to create a healthier meal? Learn from a local South Florida Chef, Chef Richard from Culinary Flair, on how to prepare a meal with healthy ingredients that you can grow in your own backyard. We will provide collard greens/mustard greens and a grocery list for pickup at the Community Gardens closer to the class date. This class is meant to be an interactive experience with Chef Richard and families at home. While the chef is cooking on screen, the family should cook at home. At the end of the class, everyone can upload their pictures to zoom so we can share all the healthy meals that were created. This class is to promote healthy eating, the Sow and Grow Garden Project, and engaging with the community. It is presented by Culinary Flair, Riviera Beach CRA, and Riviera Beach CDC.
