Why: Florida Power & Light Company awarded the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County a $50,000 grant to support Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School’s STEM Classroom Makeover. NextEra Energy Foundation, the parent company of Florida Power & Light Company, is flying in 70 diverse thought leaders who are coming together to change the world through clean energy and kicking off the company’s first-ever Racial Equity Conference through the intersection of industry and innovation to support education through “Sustaining our Legacy, Advancing Our Futures “at Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School. During the event, there will be a ceremony and ribbon cutting to kick off the classroom makeover, and FPL’s African American Professional Employee Group leaders will work with student scholars in grades 3-5 by engaging them in a hands-on generator building/STEM activity/competition, powered by FPL.
